All Sound Advice Trace Mixes have the same amount of copper, zinc and iodine per daily dose. We do not want to feed our horses the minimum daily dose. They will often still show symptoms of deficiencies. We want to feed our horses the OPTIMUM dose, and that's what our Trace Mixes contain.
Optimum Trace is in a chia base. Chia seeds provide omega threes. This is suitable for horses with inflammatory conditions like itch, or arthritis. It promotes a glowing coat and supports neurological function. It is suitable for any kind of pleasure, working, performance or competition horse.
Dosage is 30g per day. 1kg = 1 month supply
Also available in 3kg pouches

Zinc plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of a horse’s skin and coat. Here’s how:
Zinc as a Nutrient: Zinc is vitally important to a number of enzymes in the skin. Epithelial cells that make up the skin require zinc for reproduction, maintenance, and repair. The synthesis of keratins, proteins that protect epithelial cells and are found in hair, and other associated proteins rely on zinc for proper function.
Zinc is also a co-factor for hundreds of enzymes in the horse’s body affecting a diverse range of physiological functions. As an enzyme co-factor, zinc is required to help catalyse many biochemical reactions.
Zinc Deficiency: Zinc deficiency in horses can cause skin abnormalities such as slow wound healing, ringworm and Itch. This may be attributed to a weakened immune system. Horses with low zinc might be more susceptible to mud fever, greasy heel or rain scald – a type of bacterial overgrowth on the skin that occurs in damp conditions.
Zinc Supplements: If your horse is on a forage-only diet, it is likely to require supplementation as most forages are low in zinc, amongst other minerals. Supplements like Sound Advice Optimal Trace with Chia provide zinc in a balanced formula designed to meet the core nutritional needs of the majority of horses.
Chia seeds are a great addition to a horse’s diet and can contribute to skin health in several ways:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Chia seeds are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which play a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin and a shiny coat in horses. They have even higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids than flax and fish oils. These fatty acids support a strong dermal layer Protein: Chia seeds are a complete source of protein, containing all the amino acids that the body cannot make itself. Proteins are essential for the repair and regeneration of skin cells.
Allergy Relief: Chia seeds have been used to relieve the symptoms of skin allergies and are believed to help strengthen the immune system. If your horse is suffering with itchy skin, Chia seeds may provide some relief.
